Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, it's not going to get better. It's not!

Happiness doesn’t result from what we get, but from what we give.” ― Ben Carson

Because time and money are an effort for nearly everyone this time of year, this month we wish to offer a few easy options to example the gift of giving in small ways to our children.

Beginning Monday, 12/1 and continuing through Friday 12/12, we will host two donations drives. First, our traditional non-perishable food drive for Loaves & Fishes. Several of our families have given their time on the first Saturday of each month to sort food donations at the Loaves & Fishes Warehouse, in fact there is time to sign up for the next warehouse work day here. This time we are gathering contributions, too. There are boxes outside the main office under our big PRMCares bulletin board. Not sure what to donate, here is a list of priority needs.

The second drive is for Peace Passers, a local Charlotte charity that collects gently-used soccer equipment and uniforms to donate to needing youth in communities around the words. I imagine there is more than a few of us at Park Road that has a stash of old jerseys, too small cleats and few extra sets of soccer socks or soccer balls we can part with. A list of needs is here along with more details about the charity.

Other small ideas are… 1. while you are signing holiday cards, sign one more to send to a recovering veteran. Small and simple but with potentially enormous impact. Here is an address to send it to…A Recovering American Soldier, c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center, 6900 Georgia Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20307-5001.

2. Create little care packages for the homeless with a couple of useful things like hand warmers, socks, beef jerky, a toothbrush and toothpaste, or a treat. Pack in a baggy with a uplifting note and have in the car for when you see a homeless person the next time.

3. Perform a random act of kindness during your holidays errands.

4. Write a joyful note with chalk on a sidewalk in your neighborhood that a lot of folks walk their dogs on.

5. There are a lot more ideas online.

Have a great Turkey Day!
